Nashville is Tennessee’s second largest city after Memphis, and it
is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the Southeastern United States.
The city of Nashville is widely known as a center for music, and it often
goes by the nickname “Music City.” Aside from its place as
the home of country music, Nashville has an economy that is centered on
healthcare, automotive manufacturing, and publishing.
Many cultural events in Nashville are organized or associated with the
city’s universities, which include Vanderbilt University and Tennessee
State University. There are many theatre-related events and venues in
the city such as the Nashville Children’s Theatre and the Nashville
Shakespeare Festival. A wealth of museums and sites related to the Civil
War also contribute to the city’s culture and tourism industry.
